This was a project that I did for GCSE Art. At present, US banknotes are impractable and lack many of the accessibility features adopted by other countries across the world. I designed a new series of US banknotes to fix the three major issues with the current designs:
In 2004, they were changed slightly so that the colours weren’t all identical, but the difference is still slight enough to be difficult to distinguish at a glance. Similarly, they are all the same size, so cannot be distinguished by feel alone. They are also still made from a cotton/linen blend which is much more liable to damage compared to the near indestructible polymer banknotes adopted by a number of countries in the past 35 years.
I also wanted to change the subjects of the portraits on the front and back so that they would better represent American culture and landscape so I went with American writers for the front, and animals native to the American continent on the back.
